FAQs

What is Speech Therapy?

Speech Language Pathology is the diagnosis and treatment of communication disorders. Speech Language Pathologists are certified and trained to evaluate, diagnose, and treat individuals with communication disorders.

What if my child is already receiving services somewhere else?

Many of the children we serve are also receiving services elsewhere. They can continue receiving services in those other places while working with us. The private practice setting allows us to work individually with the child and train parents in various therapy techniques.

What happens at the initial session?

Depending on the needs of your child, formal testing or informal baselines will be completed. If your child has previously been evaluated or is currently receiving speech therapy in another setting (i.e. school) please bring copies of those reports and/or your child’s current IEP to the initial session. Parents will complete clinic paperwork including a case history form. The therapist will then determine appropriate goals, review clinic policies and procedures and answer any additional questions.

How can I pay for services?

How long will my child be in therapy?

It is difficult to determine how long a child will require speech therapy. It will depend on many factors including, but not limited to; severity of the impairment, other diagnoses, age, motivation, level of participation, parental involvement, and frequency of therapy.

If you have any questions or would like to schedule a free phone consultation to see if speech therapy can help you or your child, please visit the contact page to ask any questions or schedule a free phone consultation.

What is your cancellation policy?

Once a treatment schedule is set up, it is important that your child attend all sessions in order to make progress and maintain skills.  We understand children get sick and other life events occur.

A 24 hour cancellation policy is in place.

·       Cancellations that occur more than 24 hours in advance will not be charged a fee.   Make up sessions can be scheduled if available.

·       Cancellations that occur with less than 24 hour notice will be charged a cancellation fee of $25.  This fee is charged to reserve your spot on our schedule.  This fee cannot be billed to insurance and must be paid on or before the next scheduled session.

·       If you No-Show for your scheduled appointment, you will be billed for the full session fee (current reimbursable rate).  This fee cannot be billed to insurance and must be paid on or before the next session.

·       If you fail to cancel an appointment or do not show up for your scheduled appointment three times during the course of your child’s treatment, the therapist reserves the right to terminate therapy services with you.  The same will hold true for frequent cancellations.

Can I bring my other children with me to therapy/testing sessions?

We recommend leaving siblings at home when at all possible so that you, as a parent, can be involved in the sessions.  We understand that it is sometimes difficult to arrange childcare and there is a waiting room available where you can stay with your other children during the therapy session.  Siblings must be supervised at all times.
